Overhead Line Equipment
Overhead Line Equipment (OLE) is the assembly of overhead structures such as masts, gantries, and conductors found along electrified railways. OLE is now the preferred means of powering trains throughout the world, due to its operational, environmental, and performance advantages.
Some of the OLE, such as conductors, are under tension and are subject to expansion and contraction due to temperature. The height of the conductor is kept at a regulated height by the operation of counterweights.
Therefore, the lubrication of critical components such as the counterweights is important to ensure that they move freely and keep the conductor consistently at the same height above the track.
