Stone machinery manufacturer

Eliminating corrosion-driven downtime at the fastener

The challenge

A specialist manufacturer of stone-processing machinery in Italy faced a recurring problem at the point of assembly. During factory disassembly and on-site reinstallation at the customer, bolts were not reaching consistent clamping force. In service, constant exposure to alkaline water and stone dust accelerated corrosion at every threaded joint, even where thread-locking compound had been applied.

The result was progressive corrosion across the machinery, reduced operational efficiency and, in several cases, production losses at the end customer. Emergency maintenance interventions followed. The exact cost per incident was not tracked, but the combined financial impact was significant and recurring.

The solution

By applying Interflon Paste HT1200 to every threaded joint at assembly, the manufacturer established a consistent friction coefficient at the thread interface, ensuring accurate preload regardless of surface condition. The paste bonds to the metal surface, preventing metal-to-metal contact during tightening and protecting against corrosion from alkaline water and stone dust over the full service life of the machine.

Results

Machines now perform reliably across all operating conditions. Service technicians report consistent, accurate bolt tightening at assembly and have found no signs of corrosion-driven deterioration since implementation.
Projected annual saving: approximately €34,000 in eliminated emergency maintenance costs.
