Limescale removal without harmful chemicals

Limescale buildup on heating elements and galvanised steel surfaces is a persistent maintenance challenge in high-volume beverage production. In coffee manufacturing environments, frequent heating cycles accelerate mineral deposit formation, and conventional acid-based cleaners are commonly used to remove them. However, acid cleaners classified as GHS07 create compliance risk in food-registered facilities where NSF registration is required for all cleaning agents used in the production area.

A leading coffee production company was using a conventional acid cleaner to clean galvanised steel surfaces on its coffee machines. The product effectively removed limescale but was GHS07-classified and not NSF registered, making it unsuitable for use in a food production environment. The customer switched to Interflon Clean Special, an NSF-A3 registered concentrated cleaner, and achieved effective oxidation removal with a safer, compliant and more cost-effective solution.

Before

With conventional acid cleaner:

  • Severe oxidation caused by limescale deposits
  • GHS07-classified
  • Not NSF registered: not suitable for food production environments
  • Higher product consumption due to ready-to-use formulation

After

With Interflon Clean Special:

  • Effective oxidation removal
  • Safer cleaning process
  • NSF-A3 registered: compliant for use in food production environments
  • Concentrated formulation reduces product consumption and cost per application
