Lubrication solutions for the beverage industry

Beverage production places high demands on equipment reliability, hygiene and food safety. Frequent washdowns, moisture, temperature changes and continuous operation can increase the risk of lubricant wash-off, wear, contamination and unplanned maintenance.

The right lubrication strategy helps protect components, extend relubrication intervals and reduce maintenance interventions without compromising food safety. Interflon provides food-grade lubricants, application expertise and lubrication services for equipment throughout the beverage production process.

Interflon is the first lubricant supplier to hold NSF 537 PFAS-free certification across a complete NSF H1 and 3H lubricant range.

Frequently Asked Questions

Lubricants that are safe for use near filling and capping lines are NSF H1 registered lubricants wherever incidental food contact is possible. Typical lubrication points include conveyor chains, guide rails, bearings and capping heads located close to open bottles, cans or other containers.

NSF H1 registration confirms that a lubricant is suitable for use in food and beverage processing areas where incidental food contact may occur. All Interflon Food Lube and Interflon Food Grease products are NSF H1 registered and PFAS-free, making them suitable for lubrication on and around filling and capping equipment without compromising food safety.

Food-grade lubricants withstand washdowns in bottling plants by maintaining a protective lubricating film despite repeated exposure to hot water, high-pressure cleaning and chemical disinfectants.

Bottling and beverage production lines may be cleaned multiple times per shift, which can wash conventional lubricants away from chains, bearings and other moving parts. Interflon lubricants use MicPol® technology to help the lubricant adhere to the metal surface and remain effective during repeated washdown cycles. This can reduce relubrication frequency and help prevent chains and bearings from running dry between cleaning rounds.

PFAS-free lubrication is not currently a universal legal requirement for beverage production. However, PFAS restrictions are expanding, and beverage producers may increasingly be asked to provide documented information about PFAS in lubricants as part of compliance, auditing or supplier approval processes.

Using independently certified PFAS-free food-grade lubricants can help beverage producers prepare for stricter requirements and provide clear evidence during audits. Interflon holds NSF 537 PFAS-free certification across its complete NSF H1 and 3H lubricant range, providing independently verified documentation of PFAS-free status.
