€1,800 Saved in four years – simply by reducing energy consumption

Lubrication of a gear reducer in a water treatment system at a gas turbine power plant

Initial situation

Industry: Power generation (combined cycle gas turbine).
The client, already highly satisfied with Interflon Lube TF and Interflon Paste HT1200, was looking to optimise the lubrication of a gear reducer in the plant’s water clarification and flocculation system. Maintenance was performed every six months, and the team wanted to test whether switching to Interflon Grease MP00 could not only extend lubrication intervals, but also reduce the energy consumption of the drive unit.

Our solution

Interflon Grease MP00 – a high-performance semi-fluid grease with MicPol® technology, designed for enclosed gear systems operating under load.

Achieved benefits

  • Lubrication interval extended by a factor of 8
  • Reduced energy consumption during operation

The result

Approximately six weeks after replacing the previous lubricant with Interflon Grease MP00, measurements showed a significant reduction in current draw across all three phases of the motor driving the reducer. The average current dropped to 3.7 A, corresponding to a maximum reduction of 13.35% (equivalent to 0.57 A).

Based on the estimated lifespan of Interflon Grease MP00—up to 4 years—this represents a remarkable 8-fold extension of the lubrication interval compared to the previous situation.

Even without accounting for indirect savings such as reduced labour, downtime or lubricant consumption, the client achieved an energy cost saving of €1,800 over four years simply due to lower electrical power usage.
