Hyundai residential lift cables

Less working time to re-lubricate lift cable

Initial situation

The lubrication of the cables in Hyundai residential lifts posed a problem as excessive amounts of oil (specifically Shell Omala 100) and sometimes even grease were used. That caused the following problems:

1. Wastage of product.
2. Lack of guaranteed internal lubrication of the cable.
3. Contamination of the surface of the cable and the cable reel, creating a build-up of old stuck lubricants.
4. Spills on the lift car floors.

Maintenance technicians needed 1 hour to clean the cables and reel of one single lift. Because this was an expensive task, it was only carried out once a month and the condition of the cables was not visible.

Our solution

We first started cleaning the reel and the cables with Interflon Degreaser EM30+ and subsequently applied Interflon Lube EP+ (aerosol). This only took 20 minutes (one third of the time previously needed) and allowed for easier cable inspection. On inspection one month later we saw that the cable was still clean, the lubrication was still functional and the cable was in good condition.

Result

Previously, it took maintenance technicians one hour to re-lubricate one single lift cable. This represents a labour cost of, converted to euros, € 4.37. Now they can do the same job in only 20 minutes, bringing the labour cost to just € 1.45. Based on 450 teams operating in Medellin, this results in a labour cost saving of € 1,314 per month. Additionally, this process freed up more time for the maintenance technicians to complete other activities.
