Hyundai residential lift cables

Faster, cleaner cable lubrication with lasting results

Initial situation

In Hyundai residential lifts, the lubrication of the cables was inefficient and messy. Maintenance teams used excessive amounts of Shell Omala 100 oil, sometimes even grease, which led to several issues:

1. Product waste
2. Poor internal cable lubrication
3. Contaminated cable surfaces and reels, creating sticky build-up
4. Oil spills on the lift car floors

Cleaning the cables and reel of one single lift took maintenance technicians one hour. Because this was an expensive task, it was only carried out once a month. Additionally, visual inspection of the cable condition was difficult due to the residue build-up.

Our solution

We replaced the previous method with a two-step process:

1. Cleaned the cables and reel with Interflon Degreaser EM30+
2. Lubricated using Interflon Lube EP+ (aerosol)

The entire process took just 20 minutes - a third of the original time - and allowed for easy inspection. After one month, the cables remained clean, well-lubricated, and in good condition.

Result

  • Labour time reduced from 1 hour to 20 minutes
  • Labour cost dropped from €4.37 to €1.45 per lift
  • With 450 teams in Medellín, this yields a monthly labour saving of €1,314
  • Maintenance teams now have more time to focus on other tasks
