Initial situation
A packaging and pallet loading machine located near the sea faced challenges due to a combination of factors. The proximity to saltwater caused high levels of oxidation, and the machine handled highly oxidative products like sodium nitrate, potassium nitrate, and sulfates – all in powdered form. This powdered product infiltrated every crevice of the machinery, forming crusts that hindered component movement and significantly reduced service life.
The most problematic area involved the clamping jaws, responsible for sealing bags of powdered product. These jaws consistently failed to complete a full closing or opening cycle, breaking down monthly. Additionally, cylinders only lasted nine months before requiring replacement. Electrovalves suffered from constant malfunctions due to deteriorating sealing rubbers and oxidation of their bodies.
Our solution
We recommended switching to Interflon Lube PN32, our ISO VG32 pneumatic oil with MicPol®. This change resulted in a significant reduction in downtime compared to similar machines using alternative lubricants, which became practically unusable after four years. The MicPol® technology effectively repels powder and maintains a smooth lubricating film, significantly improving component performance.
The result
- Extended cylinder life: The automatically lubricated cylinders now last approximately four years, a significant improvement over the previous nine-month lifespan.
- Reduced electrovalve replacements: Electrovalves, which previously required replacement every 45 days at a cost of €200 per unit, have not been replaced since switching to Interflon Lube PN32. This translates to annual savings of €1,600 per electrovalve.
- Overall cost savings: Considering the extended lifespan of cylinders and eliminated electrovalve replacements, the total estimated cost savings since adopting Interflon Lube PN32 amount to €9,600.
