Vertical press assembly maintenance

Stop thread seizure in vertical presses, protect uptime and safety

Initial situation

A manufacturer of sealing and closure components uses vertical presses to process rubber compounds (such as Viton or ACM) at approximately 80 °C. The compound is fed through two precision-fitted components: the canotto (a cylindrical guide) and its threaded connection. These move vertically in a timed cycle.

Assembly was labour-intensive. Technicians struggled to tighten the parts without damaging the thread, essential to avoid compound leakage during moulding. Any leakage could cause blockage and force the press to stop. Disassembly was often difficult due to thread seizure, requiring force and increasing the risk of further damage or injury.

Solution

The team introduced Interflon HT1200, a high-temperature assembly paste based on non-toxic ceramic particles and enhanced with MicPol® technology. It forms a dense, low-friction barrier that prevents metal-to-metal contact, even under high load and elevated temperatures.

The paste is PFAS-free, food-safe (NSF H1), and capable of withstanding temperatures up to 1,200 °C. It provides reliable protection against seizure, fretting and thread damage, even during repeated thermal cycling.

Benefits

  • Faster, safer assembly and disassembly of threaded components
  • Reduced risk of thread stripping or galling
  • Lower likelihood of leakage and associated blockages
  • Fewer seizure-related stoppages
  • Reduced replacement of threaded components
  • Improved operator safety – non-toxic and skin-friendly

Results

After switching lubricants, technicians reported noticeably smoother maintenance tasks. No seizure incidents were recorded in the first three months, despite daily cycling under high load and temperature. The risk of misalignment or thread damage was significantly reduced.

If this change had not been made, technicians would likely still be dealing with seized parts, damaged threads, unplanned downtime and high replacement costs.

Based on early performance, the customer projects an annual saving of €26,400, driven by fewer failures, faster interventions and reduced component wear.
