Extending lubrication intervals: a sixfold increase

Reduced maintenance for roller conveyor chains

Initial situation

The chains on a roller conveyor used for transporting 1-ton fertiliser bags were plagued by old, caked-on lubricant. This created several problems:

  • The thick grease buildup obscured the chains, making proper inspection challenging.
  • Dripping grease accumulated on the conveyor frame and floor, creating a slipping hazard for workers.
  • The old grease attracted fertiliser dust, forming a grinding paste that further exacerbated wear and tear on the chains.
  • Due to these issues, the chains required lubrication every 2-4 weeks, depending on weather conditions and conveyor usage.

Our solution

We recommended Interflon Food Lube G150, a multi-purpose oil that effectively penetrates the pins and bushings of the chains. It leaves behind a dry MicPol® film, that repels dust and sand, keeping the chains clean and well-protected from corrosion. Before applying the new lubricant, the old, hardened grease needed removal. Interflon Degreaser EM30+, an effective, slow-evaporating, and user-friendly degreaser, made this task quick and safe.

The result

Switching to Interflon products has yielded significant improvements:

  • Extended lubrication intervals: the chains now only require lubrication every 6 months instead of every 2-4 weeks. This translates to substantial time and lubricant savings.
  • Clean chains: the MicPol® film keeps the chains clean, eliminating fertiliser build-up and preventing corrosion.
  • Simplified maintenance: chain cleaning now requires only compressed air, further reducing maintenance needs.
