No more rust, stiff operation or daily relubrication.
Dumper chains lasting 52 weeks and beyond
cc
Initial situation
In waste and offal processing lines, dumper chains were constantly exposed to water, blood and sanitation chemicals. Conventional oils were washed away within hours, leaving chains rusty and stiff. Maintenance staff relubricated the chains daily just to keep them moving, yet chain sets still failed in less than a year.
- Daily lubrication: ~365 interventions per year.
- Chain lifetime: <12 months.
- Chain replacement cost: €5.000–€10.000 per set, plus downtime.
Solution
Chains were switched to Interflon Food Lube G220 (PFAS-free, NSF H1). Its dry lubrication film with MicPol® technology penetrates chain links and resists water, disinfectants and blood. Dosing was optimised to prevent dripping and ensure hygienic operation.
Results
- Chain lifetime doubled → from <1 year to 52 weeks or longer.
- Lubrication frequency reduced → from daily (365×) to weekly (52×).
- Maintenance hours saved → ~78 hours per year (15 minutes × 313 avoided relubes).
- Spare part savings → avoided one full chain replacement per year (≈ €5.000–€10.000).
- Improved hygiene → no dripping oil, reducing HACCP/BRC audit risks.
Conclusion
By upgrading to Food Lube G220, the plant more than doubled dumper chain life and cut lubrication workload by over 300 interventions per year. The result: lower spare part and labour costs, smoother running chains and improved audit readiness.
