Diverters

In the diversion or distribution process, the machine must handle product flows efficiently, avoiding stains and damage to packages. This can be compromised by malfunctioning directing plates, chains, rollers, or bearings, and lubrication failures. 

Interflon solutions not only improve component operation but also prevent premature wear, extending component lifespan, and avoiding lubricant contamination problems.

Challenge 1: Prevent premature wear of package direction plates and contamination from excessive lubricant

The customer's diverter experienced contamination from excessive lubricant and external contaminants adhering to the roller. There was premature wear of the plates, causing noise and wear particles in the area.

 

Our solution

We recommended our dry lubricant Interflon Food Lube AL.

Using minimal amounts of Interflon dry lubricant sprayed onto the surfaces

  • prevented machine contamination
  • extended the lifespan of the plates 4x
  • reduced lubricant consumption by 75%

The diverters in the customer's plant have three chains that are difficult to access. This makes lubrication challenging, with some points receiving excessive lubrication while others are insufficiently lubricated. Lubricating while the machine is running is very dangerous, so production had to be stopped for proper lubrication.

 

Our solution

We recommended implementing Interflon Single Point Lubricators with Interflon Food Lube G220.

The result

Switching to Interflon’s automatic single-point lubrication system yielded the following benefits:

  • Increased lubrication reliability with 100% of points being correctly lubricated
  • Extended chain lifespan 3x
  • Avoidance of production stoppages for lubrication
  • Reduced lubricant consumption
  • USD 1,200 saved in labour costs per diverter
     

Challenge 3: Improve the operation of the equipment, avoiding premature wear and continuous intervention

The guides of the diverter were getting blocked and caused vibrations due to the accumulation of contamination. As a result, constant lubrication was required.

 

Our solution

We recommended applying Interflon Food Lube, our dry film, food grade lubricating oil.

  • Extended lubrication intervals with 650%, from 4 days to 30 days
  • Reduced lubricant consumption with 50%
  • Ended malfunctioning of the guides
  • A cleaner operation
