Applications

Lubrication for poultry pre-treatment and transport

The first stage of poultry processing sets the conditions for everything that follows. Conveyors, infeed belts, overhead shackle chains and gearboxes run under continuous mechanical load from the moment the line starts. Daily high-pressure washdowns, aggressive disinfectants and heavy loads strip away standard lubricants within hours, leaving chains unprotected, shackles stiff and gearboxes at risk of leakage and overheating.

Getting lubrication right at this stage is not optional. A chain that rusts prematurely or a gearbox that leaks in the pre-treatment zone creates an immediate HACCP risk and a direct cost in unplanned downtime and spare parts.

Interflon's PFAS-free, NSF H1 lubricants with MicPol® technology are formulated to maintain film integrity through daily washdown cycles, resisting displacement by water, steam and disinfectants. In documented poultry plant applications, relubrication intervals were extended from weekly to monthly and chain lifetime doubled from 1.5 to 3 years.

Applications in pre-treatment and transport

Lubrication for poultry conveyors and infeed belts: Chains, bearings, gearboxes and belt drives on infeed systems from Meyn, Stork and Marel. Documented results: chain lifetime doubled, relubrication interval extended from weekly to monthly, lubricant consumption reduced by 70–80%.
Lubrication for overhead conveyor chains and shackles: Overhead chain systems running under continuous load, daily washdowns and disinfectant exposure. Documented results: chain stretch reduced, shackle seizure eliminated, lubricant consumption reduced by up to 80% with automated dosing.

Frequently Asked Questions about lubrication in poultry pre-treatment and transport

The main lubrication challenges in poultry pre-treatment and transport are washoff, corrosion and gearbox leakage. Daily high-pressure washdowns with disinfectants strip standard lubricants from chains, bearings and gearboxes within hours, leaving metal surfaces unprotected. The result is chain rust, shackle seizure, bearing failure and gearbox leakage, each one a direct cause of unplanned downtime and a potential HACCP non-conformity.

NSF H1 lubricants used in poultry pre-treatment equipment include high-adhesion chain oils for conveyor chains and shackles, water-resistant greases for bearings and semi-fluid greases for gearboxes. Interflon Food Lube G150 and G220 are the recommended chain oils for this stage. Interflon Food Grease HD00 is the preferred solution for gearboxes, eliminating routine oil changes and reducing leakage risk.

Gearbox leakage in poultry pre-treatment lines is prevented by replacing conventional gear oils with a semi-fluid NSF H1 grease that does not flow out under operating temperatures. Interflon Food Grease HD00 is formulated for this application. It eliminates routine oil changes, reduces leakage and lowers operating temperature, removing a common source of product contamination and audit risk in the pre-treatment zone.
