Lubrication for poultry conveyors and infeed belts

Poultry conveyors and infeed belts from OEMs such as Meyn, Stork and Marel are the first critical step in poultry processing. These systems run under wet, contaminated and high-load conditions. Poultry conveyor lubrication is a constant challenge: chains, bearings and gearboxes fail early, and frequent washdowns wash away standard oils and greases. The result is chain rust, gearbox leakage, bearing washout, premature wear and unplanned stoppages.

Documented results

  • Up to 2–3x longer lifetime for poultry conveyor chains and bearings
  • Relubrication interval extended from weekly to monthly
  • No routine gearbox oil changes, reducing maintenance time and cost
  • Less rust and lubricant dripping, improving hygiene and audit readiness
  • Lower friction in belt drives, reducing energy use and wear

Failures and Interflon solutions

  • Chains and shackles – corrosion and stiff operation after cleaning, frequent replacement.
Interflon Food Lube G150* is a high-adhesion H1 chain oil developed for overhead poultry conveyors. It forms a durable, water-resistant lubrication film that stays in place during heavy washdowns. Unlike low-viscosity oils, it delivers controlled application in automatic lubrication systems and resists being washed off. The result is significantly lower chain wear and reduced chain stretch over time.
  • Bearings – washout from water and disinfectants, seizure under shock loads.
Interflon Food Grease LT2 for low-temperature reliability, or Food Grease HD2 for heavy loads and humidity. Both reduce relubrication needs.
  • Gearboxes – oil leakage, overheating, frequent oil changes, contamination risk.
→  Interflon Food Grease HD00 is the preferred solution for most poultry gearbox applications: no routine oil changes, fewer leaks and lower operating temperature. Food Lube G220 can be used in non-automatic lubrication systems where operating temperatures allow.
  • Belt drives – misalignment, high friction, sticking, energy loss.
Interflon Food Lube AL and Fin Super: dry-film lubricants reduce friction on belt guides and pulleys, preventing sticking and wear.
  • Cleaning – residues and old grease build-up.
Interflon Metal Clean F, Interflon Degreaser EM30+, Power Wipes: remove residues without deposits, supporting hygiene and audit compliance.

All lubricants are PFAS-free, NSF H1 conveyor lubrication certified, Halal and Kosher. Cleaning products are PFAS-free and carry the appropriate NSF cleaner categories (e.g., A1/K1/K3). See product pages for the exact category.

* While Interflon Food Lube G150 is our primary recommendation for most poultry chain applications, Interflon Food Lube G220 can be an excellent alternative for slightly higher mechanical loads or short-term temperature peaks, where appropriate for the equipment and lubrication system.
Thanks to its higher viscosity and strong adhesion, Food Lube G220 is also well suited as a rationalisation product.

Frequently Asked Questions about lubrication for poultry conveyors

The best lubricant for poultry conveyor chains is a high-adhesion NSF H1 chain oil that maintains film integrity through daily high-pressure washdowns and disinfectant exposure. Interflon Food Lube G150 is developed for this application. In documented poultry plant cases, switching to Food Lube G150 extended relubrication intervals from weekly to monthly and doubled chain lifetime from 1.5 to 3 years.

Conveyor chains rust in poultry plants after cleaning because standard lubricants are displaced by high-pressure water, steam and disinfectants during daily sanitation, leaving metal surfaces unprotected. Interflon Food Lube G150 uses MicPol® technology to bond to chain links and resist washoff, maintaining a protective film between cleaning cycles.

Poultry conveyor chains lubricated with standard oils typically require weekly relubrication to compensate for washoff during daily sanitation. With Interflon Food Lube G150 or G220, relubrication intervals in documented applications were extended from weekly to monthly, reducing labour by approximately 13 hours per year per line.
